The 17-year-old driver who fled from authorities last month in Boca Raton and seriously injured now faces an adult felony charge, records show.
The Fort Lauderdale driver was booked into the Palm Beach County Jail on a charge of fleeing and eluding that caused serious injuries. He was released under supervision after posting bond.
Authorities say the 17-year-old was driving a black Acura MDX when it crashed on West Palmetto Park Road east of Interstate 95. Five other teens, ranging in age from 15 to 19, were also in the SUV, police records show. One fractured his skull. Another broke her spine.
Their car crashed into two others and injured two men, including a 48-year-old father of two who was only a few minutes from home.
The high-speed chase followed reports of a home burglary and an armed robbery all within a few-mile area in Boca Raton.
A woman heard banging noises and saw three males kicking in the back window of her neighbor’s home just north of West Palmetto Park Road east of Interstate 95. The burglars reportedly took an Apple computer monitor, a MacBook Pro and some jewelry.
Authorities said they found the 17-year old fingerprints on a pencil holder in the home. The oldest of the six teenagers later found in the Acura SUV, did not have permission to be in the house, the homeowner told police.
About an hour later, that SUV reportedly fled from an armed robbery in a parking lot on the 900 block of North Federal Highway, south of Glades Road.
An officer quickly spotted the SUV heading west on Yamato Road.
