Women Pushing Strollers Injured When Teen Causes Crash In Stolen SUV
Two women pushing baby carriages down a Palm Beach County sidewalk were seriously hurt when a teen driver in a stolen SUV struck another vehicle and jumped the curb, police said.
The morning mayhem was triggered when a 16-year-old driver in a stolen Chevy Tahoe ran through a red light on North Palm Beach near the intersection of Limestone Creek catching the attention of police, who then began chasing him.
The driver was speeding and ran another red light, slamming into a Nissan Pathfinder as it was traveling down Delray Beach Road.
The two cars careened in opposite directions and struck the women, who were walking along separate corners at the intersection cops said.
One of the women, a mom pushing her 2-year-old boy, was critically injured, officials said.
“She was bleeding out the head. It look like she was already dead. Then she started moving,” said a 52-year old witness.
Miraculously, the baby was unharmed, he said.
“The baby carriage was flattened and collapse out on the curb. Then somebody else open the carriage and the baby was there like nothing happened,” the man said, adding that the child had no visible injuries.
The woman was listed in critical condition at Palm Beach County Hospital. Her son only had minor injuries and was treated at the same hospital.
The other woman and the 10-month-old boy she was pushing were in stable condition.
The driver of the Chevy tried to run from the scene but police quickly took him into custody. Charges against him were pending.
