A family of four were among the people killed when a motorist seen driving erratically southeast of Lighthouse Point fled from police and drove through a stop sign before striking another vehicle, police said.
Authorities described the collision in Broward County as one of the worst they’ve seen, with both vehicles left unrecognizable.
“As far as lives lost and a devastating accident scene, this would probably top any other accidents for the Broward County Police Department,” a police spokeswoman said.
The police pursuit began Sunday night in nearby Hollywood when a Dodge Durango was seen operating erratically and driving without its headlights on, according to a Police Captain. An officer pursued the Durango.
At one point the SUV clipped a vehicle as it sped through an intersection. Shortly after, the Durango drove through the stop sign in Broward County, entered another intersection and struck a Honda Accord.
FHP said the pursuit lasted about a minute and a half.
The driver of the Durango remained unidentified.
All four people in the Honda also were killed.
Accident attorney Jason Weisser of Schuler, Halvorson, Weisser, Zoeller and Overbeck responded to this unfortunate crash. “This is a serious accident involving two vehicles, which ultimately, resulted in the death of four people including a family of four.
