A van crashed into a tractor-trailer in Indian River County, killing the van’s passenger and injuring the driver, cops said.
A blue Ford Windstar mini-van was trying to pass to the right of the truck when the driver collided with the 18-wheeler and then rammed into a parked car in Vero Beach, police sources said.
A 34-year old truck driver was driving south on Sebastian Street when the 32-year-old crashed and nearly split the van in two, according to witnesses.
The truck driver ran over to the van to try and help free the men from the mangled hunk of metal, witnesses said.
“You could only see the hands of the passenger, the fingers, there was no blood no blood at all but they were crushed under the interior of the car,” the truck driver said.
They managed to free the driver from the car.
“We woke him up and he got out like nothing happened and then he just tried to leave,” the truck driver said.
The driver and his passenger, 26, were rushed to the hospital. The passenger had severe trauma to the body and died at a hospital in Broward County, police said.
The driver of the van was driving without a license, charges against him are pending, police sources said.
