Three young men miraculously survived a horrific crash that left their car completely totaled in St. Lucie County.
The accident took place when the driver, who was heading north in Fort Pierce between Avenues P and St. Lucie Village, lost control of the white Acura and slammed into a parked trailer.
The names of the 24-year-old driver and his passengers, who are 20 and 21, were not immediately released.
Firefighters said they had to use three jaws of life to pry the three out of the mangled wreckage.
The driver and the younger passenger were in stable condition at Delray Medical Center.
The older passenger was in critical condition at St. Lucie County Hospital.
Police said there were no immediate indications of alcohol or drug use, but they’re looking into whether speed was a factor.
The impact left the car’s tires blown out, its hood sheared off and the windshield shattered.
Neighbors said the crash was an accident waiting to happen.
“Ocean Parkway is like a raceway at night,’’ said a 51-year old man.
“I saw the aftermath of that crash. They had to be speeding.
“It’s a miracle more people don’t get killed out here.”
A 32-year old said, “I am scared to walk my dog out here. The cars rip by so fast and so close to each other and the sidewalk. It seems like every week, there is a crash out here.
