Unlicensed Driver Arrested For Causing Fatal Four-Car Crash
An unlicensed driver caused a fatal four-car crash in Palm Beach County and was arrested after fleeing the scene, police said.
A 24-year old was driving a BMW in the left lane of Wellington Avenue near East 233rd Street, when he crossed over the double-yellow lines into oncoming traffic and sideswiped a 2014 Honda SUV being driven by a 70-year-old woman, according to authorities.
The 24-year old then accelerated south in the northbound lane where he crashed head on with a 1995 Toyota sedan. The Toyota was driven by a 59-year old Delray Beach resident, police said.
The Toyota then veered into the path of a fourth vehicle, a 2013 Dodge SUV driven by a 59-year-old woman.
The 24-year old allegedly abandoned his car and fled, but returned shortly thereafter and was arrested, police said.
He was charged with leaving the scene of an accident resulting in death and criminal possession of a controlled substance. The 24-year old also received a violation for driving with a revoked license, police said.
The 70-year old woman was rushed to Delray Medical Center, but could not be saved. None of the other victims were seriously injured.
