A car, driven by a 16-year-old boy, slammed into a Wellington dental office, blowing out walls, destroying equipment and shattering the normalcy of a routine day at the office.
A doctor had just sat down with a patient when the walls exploded around her. The doctor was in the room next door when she heard a loud boom and watched helplessly as the office where she has based her practice for more than two decades broke apart.
“I looked up, and there’s a car all the way through the exam room next door,” she said. “Thank goodness no one was in that room. They all would have died. The dental chair were under the car, chairs were crushed. The laser equipment was destroyed. The ceiling caved in. The walls caved in. It was unbelievable.”
Four patients in the dental office were injured in the crash. The car’s driver and two of his friends were also injured. They were lucky, the injuries were not serious, the doctor said.
The doctor’s assistant was nearly pinned by a sink that was pushed up against her back when the car barreled into the office, while her patient was inches from getting crushed by a crumpling wall, she said.
Police are still investing the crash.
