A woman has narrowly avoided serious injury after she was hit on a Jensen Beach pedestrian crossing.
The 32-year old, was crossing the road after work. She said she looked left and saw a car approaching, appearing to slow down to a stop. She started to cross and reached the center of the road before realizing the driver of the car had not seen her and was not stopping.
The car struck her left side knocking her to the ground. She knows the incident could have been much worse and she escaped with minor head injuries which had been treated in a local hospital in Martin County.
She wanted to raise awareness of the dangerous crossing, which has been the site of several pedestrian incidents. Most recently when a journalist was hit and seriously injured.
She said the crossing should be raised to make pedestrians more visible, especially when the afternoon sun hits drivers in the eyes, which she said happened yesterday.
