A 26-year old pedestrian was struck by a drunk driver and killed in a horrible crash on Interstate 95 in Palm Beach County, the post reports.
Florida Highway Patrol officials said the 26-year old was attempting to cross the road at an exit ramp. A Ford pick-up truck veered onto the shoulder, striking the 26-year old and went further to hit a taxi and the taxi driver before coming to a halt.
Police said in a statement: “One of the people struck was thrown into the center lane of I-95.
“Shortly after the crash, and before any 911 calls were received, another man was driving through the area and noticed a vehicle in front of him make an evasive maneuver to the left.
“The man then spotted the wreckage along the right side of the road and activated his emergency lights. As he slowed to stop for the crash he struck the body of the victim in the center lane.”
The 37-year-old driver of the pick-up truck attempted to flee on foot, but was caught by police.
A police sergeant said: “It is believed the driver was intoxicated and was driving without a license. “He was transported to the Palm Beach County regional hospital, the result of the test for intoxication is pending.”
Friends and family have paid a heartbreaking tribute to the 26-year old victim: “We were heartbroken to hear the news of his passing.
