A young girl has been sent to the hospital with spinal cord injuries following an accident involving two vehicles at the intersection of Coconut Boulevard and Orange Boulevard in Loxahatchee, Palm Beach County Fire Rescue authorities said.
Parents were sitting in traffic with their three children when a truck slammed into them, authorities said. Luckily they all survived, but not without a cost.
Their seven-year-old daughter sustained life-long spinal trauma which will only get worse as she gets older, doctors said. The girl’s mother claimed if she wasn’t sitting in a booster seat, she would not be here today.
“It was surreal, the explosion went off … everyone was screaming and crying,” she said.” We both said we just wanted to hear the kids screaming, we didn’t want to hear silence.
Already a car safety advocate, she said when she saw this scene and she was thankful for the extra money she spent on booster seats and correct installation.
The parents are on a mission to get car seat safety laws changed after a horrific car crash could have cost them their daughter’s life. “The law states a child can be turned from rearward facing to forward facing and the recommendation is to keep them rearward facing until aged two or older,” the 28-year old mom said.
Accident attorney Jason Weisser of Schuler, Halvorson, Weisser, Zoeller and Overbeck responded to this unfortunate crash. “This is a serious accident involving a truck, which ultimately, resulted in critical injuries. We wish the victim a speedy recovery and hope the investigators can quickly determine what caused the accident.
