An 84-year-old Lake Worth man died following a car collision that sent the SUV he was riding into the side of a building, the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office and the Florida Highway Patrol officials said.
Jorge Abrego was wearing a seat belt when the crash occurred. The 2002 Toyota Sequoia SUV, in which he was a passenger, ran a red light just after at Lucerne Lakes Boulevard west of Greenacres, a report by the Florida Highway Patrol said.
The SUV sideswiped a 2018 Jeep Cherokee turning east onto Lake Worth from Lucerne Lakes, then crossed the median and all westbound lanes of Lake Worth before it struck the corner of a building and stopped, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
Abrego died of his injuries at Delray Medical Center, the sheriff’s office said.
The driver of the SUV, a 75-year old man of Lake Worth, suffered critical injuries, the report said.
The driver of the Jeep, a 61-year old man of suburban Greenacres, was not injured, according to Florida Highway Patrol.
