The northbound lane is down to one lane on Boca Raton Highway after a multiple vehicle crash that injured six people.
Police are still investigating after four adults and two children were injured in a serious traffic crash at Boca Raton.
Initial information indicates that four vehicles collided during peak hour traffic congestion as they traveled northbound on the Boca Raton Highway.
Two woman, ages 47 and 51 suffered serious injuries and were transported to the Delray Medical Center.
Two girls, ages 8 and 10 also suffered serious head and facial injuries and were transported to the hospital.
A 22-year-old man and 23-year-old woman also suffered minor injuries as a result of the crash, which happened when a car driven by the 22-year old had collided with a Hyundai driven by the 23-year old.
Three northbound lanes of Boca Raton were closed for several hours, causing major traffic delays. Cars were forced to merge across multiple lanes into one lane past the crash scene.
It appeared a number of cars spun out of control on the wet road while trying to exit the highway.
Police have urged motorists to slow down in the rain and drive to the conditions.
Boca Raton Highway had been reopened. The Forensic Crash Unit is investigating the incident.
Motorists are being asked to avoid the area and seek alternate routes.
