A 35-year old was parked across the road from Martin County High School with her 15-year-old daughter when she saw her youngest daughter, who was walking towards them, get hit by a car.
The girl was halfway across the road when a large four-wheel-drive collided with her, hurling her more than several feet down the road.
“One minute I was watching her cross the road, the next minute she was flung up into the air,” the 35-year old mom said.
“I thought my sister died. I was in shock. I was screaming out her name and running towards her,” the victim’s sister said. “There was so much blood, and her leg was twisted the wrong way.”
The victim was rushed to a Martin County Hospital with a broken femur and covered in bruises and lacerations.
She was taken by ambulance to the St. Lucie County hospital where she had surgery.
“I remember putting my hand up just before I was hit,” she said when she returned home.
“Everything was black – I woke up and I remember seeing ambulance people everywhere, and my English teacher.
“Then I woke up surrounded by my family in the hospital.”
