A rollover crash in Palm Beach County sparked a series of arrests, during which a police officer was allegedly punched in the face.
Police arrived on Wellington Street to find a Holden utility truck on its roof, with the driver having left the scene.
A police spokeswoman said high speed was believed to have been a factor in the crash.
“It’s believed the vehicle accelerated heavily, lost traction and collided with a van. It had enough momentum that it overturned onto its roof after hitting the van.”
Officers found the 27-year-old male driver walking nearby and performed a breath test, which returned a mid-range reading.
The van which was heading to Hobe Sound in Martin County had over 8 passengers in it. Three victims identified as a 13-year old, 23-year old and an 11-year-old, were confirmed dead in the scene,
The other five passengers sustained major but non-life threatening injuries and were taken to separate hospitals in Florida.
The 27-year-old man was charged with dangerous operation of a vehicle, driving under the influence of alcohol and fleeing the scene of an accident.
He will have his first appearance in Palm Beach Magistrates Court.
