Florida Highway Patrol Officer Charged With Driving While Impaired After Crashing Car

An off-duty Florida Highway Patrol officer was arrested in Indian River County after he smashed into a parked car while driving the wrong way on a one-way street, police authorities said.

FHP 2 1218

The FHP officer slammed into the unoccupied car at Florida Ridge and North 12th Street, in Indian River County, according to police authorities.

He was charged with driving while impaired, authorities said. The question of whether he was drunk or high on drugs is still under investigation, police said.

Police could not say whether anyone was in the car with the officer but added there were no injuries in the crash.

He has been on the force for more than 10 years, police said. It was unclear if he would be suspended or otherwise disciplined.

The officer took home $129,636 in total pay from the FHP, including his $85,292 base rate and overtime, according to the Post.
