A Ford Mustang convertible was nearly split in half after a crash with a Toyota Corolla that left Daniel Alcocer dead, three injured and both drivers hospitalized.
Ejected from the Ford was Daniel Alcocer, 21, who died at the scene after the collision happened.
The 30-year old Ford driver of Boca Raton, was driving the Ford north on South State Road 7 and was approaching Davie Boulevard when he lost control of the car and stuck a the Toyota Corolla at the northeast side of the intersection, the Broward Sheriff’s Office and the Florida Highway Patrol said.
Plantation Fire Rescue paramedics took the driver to Broward Health Medical Center in Fort Lauderdale. His injuries were not life-threatening, the sheriff’s office said.
The driver of the Toyota Corolla was taken to a different hospital for treatment, he also sustained non-life threatening injuries.
Photographs of the wreckage showed the entire right side of the car was destroyed and the air bags had expanded.
Davie Boulevard was closed in both directions for about eight hours. Southbound traffic on State Road 7 was detoured until police opened the intersection.
