One person died and two others were injured in a crash that left a pickup and a car upside down on a Pembroke Park street.
The victim was identified as Wadarius R. Harris, 27, of Miami. The two crash survivors, whose names were not disclosed, were taken to the hospital with injuries that were not life-threatening, the Broward Sheriff’s Office said.
The crash occurred at the 3200 block of Southwest 52nd Avenue , an agency spokeswoman said.
Deputies were on their way to the crash scene when dispatchers received reports of gunfire in the area. Investigators found a weapon, possibly a semi-automatic rifle, in the middle of the street surrounded by twisted metal, she said.
“Right now we don’t know what guns were used in the shooting,” the spokeswoman said. “We just know that we have shooting victims.”
Also unknown is whether the people in the vehicles knew each other.
Throughout the morning, a white Chevrolet S-10 pickup remained rolled over along 52nd Avenue. The crashed car, a dark-colored Nissan Altima, also rolled over, was nearby on the grass of the Holly Ridge apartment complex.
How the crash happened isn’t yet known but witnesses describe it as loud and violent.
It made a neighborhood resident jump out of his bed. “The sound was something I never heard before. The sound was something out of a war, that’s how loud the collision was,” the resident said.
Investigators from the Broward Sheriff’s Office are combing the scene for evidence before removing Harris’s body from next to the pickup.
