A Broward County man is accused of speeding through a red light and causing a crash near the Hillsboro Beach Clinic. A 58-year-old woman was killed in the crash.
The 30-year old Broward County man is charged with aggravated vehicular homicide. He was arrested after the crash and is expected to make his first court appearance soon.
The crash happened on Wilton Manors and Pembroke Pines Avenue.
The 58-year old woman was driving east on Pembroke Pines in a 2014 Honda CR-V, court records say.
She had a green light and was waiting to turn left on Wilton Manors Street at the intersection when the 30-year old, in a 2011 Chevy Equinox, sped through a red light driving south on East 105th Street, according to court records.
The 30-year old, while driving well in excess of the posted 35 mile per hour speed limit, drove into the on-coming lanes, sped through the red light and crashed into the driver’s side of the woman’s SUV, according to police.
The crash heavily damaged both the 58-year old woman’s SUV and the front of the 30 year old man’s SUV, police reports say. The impact sent the man’s SUV backwards into a utility poll, police reports say.
The woman was taken to University Hospitals, where she died.
The 30-year old man was taken to University Hospitals, where he was treated and released. He was then taken to the Broward County Jail.
