John Kenneth Kirby Killed On North Federal Highway
Police authorities and the Florida Highway Patrol officials have identified a pedestrian who was struck and killed by a vehicle in Delray Beach.
Police said that John Kenneth Kirby, 64, was crossing North Federal Highway with a friend when he stepped into the path of an oncoming Jeep Wrangler. He died at the scene. The Jeep’s driver was identified as a 37-year old man of Delray Beach.
His 59-year old friend from Palm Beach Gardens who he was with happened to be very fortunate as he didn’t sustain any form of injuries. A witness who was present at the time if the incident said.
The investigation into the crash remains open, police authorities and the Florida Highway Patrol officials said in a statement.
Investigators and the Florida Highway Patrol officials say Kirby had been staying at the Motel & More Hotel on Federal but mostly had been homeless. He has no known family, a Delray Beach police spokeswoman said.
It is not yet certain what has lead to the crash, a Palm Beach County police sergeant told the post.
Anyone with information about Kirby’s relatives is asked to call Delray Beach police investigator.
