The Florida Highway Patrol has identified Samuel David Goldstein, a 36-year-old Palm Beach Gardens man, as the person hit by a car on Interstate 95 and flown to St. Mary’s Medical Center in critical condition.
Samuel David Goldstein, driving a 2007 Nissan Maxima, hit the back of a 61-year-old Port St. Lucie resident, near mile marker 94 north of the Palm Beach County border, Florida Highway Patrol officials said.
The 61-year old pulled his vehicle onto the shoulder of the highway while Goldstein veered onto the other side of the road into the median.
Goldstein got out of his car and tried to cross the roadway to speak with the 61-year old, but was hit by an oncoming 2011 Honda CR-V driven by a 34-year-old man of Port St. Lucie.
Goldstein remained in critical condition at West Palm Beach Hospital, Florida Highway Patrol officials said. It is unknown if Goldstein was under the influence of alcohol or drugs at the time of the crash, Florida Highway Patrol said. The 61-year old Port St. Lucie man and the 34-year old driver were not under the influence of any substance.
The cause of the wreck remained under investigation, Florida Highway Patrol said.
