A Hialeah woman was killed and several people were injured following a four-vehicle crash on Florida’s Turnpike in suburban West Palm Beach during a stormy weather, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
The crash took place near the Okeechobee Boulevard exit. The woman killed was a passenger in a 2002 Honda Civic that a tractor-trailer pinned against the median wall in the southbound lanes, FHP said. The driver of the Honda sustained serious injuries. Both people in the Honda are from Hialeah, but the Florida Highway Patrol has not released their identities pending notification of next of kin.
The tractor-trailer had jackknifed just before it hit the Honda while trying to avoid a 2011 BMW 5251 that initiated the crash by spinning out of control and coming to a stop across the southbound lanes. Florida Highway Patrol said, the BMW lost control in the stop-and-go traffic.
The truck also struck a 2018 Infiniti QX60 with four occupants inside. Two of the Infiniti passengers, including a 12-year-old boy, sustained minor injuries. The driver of the BMW also sustained minor injuries.
The Florida Highway Patrol aid the crash remains under investigation.
