A Delray Beach man died after he crashed into a semi-truck, skidded across the roadway and landed in a canal, the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office and the Florida Highway Patrol officials said.
Joshua Kentts, 77, was driving his Ford F-150 northbound along Lake Okeechobee on the 7200 block of State Road 15, about 15 miles north of downtown Delray Beach. Joshua entered the southbound lane to pass other cars in the northbound lane when he hit a Freight Cascadia semi-truck on its driver’s side just past the front door.
Joshua continued in a northbound direction but began to skid and struck a guardrail on the west side of the roadway. His truck jumped onto the guardrail, skidded further and eventually landed partially submerged in a canal.
He was pronounced dead on the scene. The driver of the semi-truck sustained minor injuries. According to a Florida Highway Patrol report, the driver of the semi-truck did attempt to stop when he saw Joshua heading toward him in the same lane.
The cause of the crash is still under investigation according to the Palm Beach Sheriff office. Anyone with relevant information relating to the crash should contact the PBSO or FHP.
