A 63-year old woman delivering vegetables to a market in Port Salerno has been confirmed dead, and her 21-year-old stepdaughter was clinging to life after a horrific car accident in Martin County, police authorities and relatives said.
The 63-year-old who was driving a 2004 Ford Econoline van was pronounced dead at the scene after she rear-ended a tractor trailer on the Port Salerno Expressway near Jensen Beach, FHP said.
Her 21-year-old stepdaughter, who was sitting in the backseat was rushed to Delray Medical Center in critical condition. Her 22-year-old stepson, who was also in the back seat, was taken to a hospital in Martin County in stable condition with body trauma, according to FHP and relatives.
A 38-year-old man riding in the front passenger seat, who a relative identified as the victim’s brother, was taken to Hobe Sound in stable condition with a leg injury.
The 40-year-truck driver was also taken to Delray Medical Center in stable condition. The Florida Highway Patrol said no charges have been filed yet as the crash is still under investigation.
