A chain-reaction pileup on St. Lucie County Expressway involving two 18-wheelers, a pickup truck and a Toyota Corolla left three people dead and six injured, Florida Highway Patrol officials said.
The crash happened on the northbound side between Lake Wood and Fort Pierce Avenue, according to Florida Highway Patrol officials.
One of the big rigs had been stopped in the middle lane with a Ford pickup idling behind him, when the second tractor-trailer came barreling into the rear of the much smaller truck.

Two of the dead were not yet identified The others were in serious condition and had been taken to a hospital in St. Lucie County
