The driver was zooming around Florida Ridge when he struck several vehicles and then the house at 784 S. Florida Ridge, Florida Highway Patrol officials said.

The vehicle struck a woman and two young children on the street before hitting the side of the house, a police source said.

“The woman was unable to grab the children and pull them out of harm’s way,” the source said, pointing out that more people would have been walking by if it hadn’t been so early.

A 52-year-old man who lives in the neighborhood, said he tried to help the driver but he had already died.

The woman and the two children are listed in critical condition in Delray Medical Center.

“I heard a car racing down the street and then smashing into other cars,” he said. “It crashed through the front gate. I ran up to the car to help the driver, but he was dead.”

The name of the driver who was in his 40’s, wasn’t immediately released.
