Couple Dead After Causing Crash That Left 5 Injured

An elderly Jensen Beach couple died side by side when they crashed their station wagon crashed into a tractor trailer truck in the parking lot of a store in Indian River County, cops said.

An 87-year-old man was driving his 1989 Mercury station wagon with his 89-year-old wife when he lost control and crashed head on into the a trailer truck, police sources said.

The 87-year-old driver also sideswiped a parked minivan in the lot, but no one was inside.

Both husband and wife were declared dead at the scene.

Five people in the trailer truck were transported to the hospital. Their identities were not yet revealed.

The couple had been renovating the exterior of their home. A 47-year-old contractor broke down in tears when he showed up at their home to learn the tragic news.

“They are wonderful people,” said an emotional contractor, recalling that the driver was painting ironwork. “He’s always outside trying to help us. “

Florida Highway Patrol said, the cause of the crash is still under investigation and urges anyone with relevant information concerning the crash to contact the Palm Beach Sheriff Office.
