Officials say two people were killed and 18 others injured after a car accident in southeast Florida.
Florida Highway Patrol said the wreck happened on Hobe Sound in West Martin County.
A Florida Highway Patrol Lieutenant said, a pickup truck rear-ended a passenger van in the southbound lanes, causing the van’s driver to lose control and crash through the median. It then came to rest on its side in the northbound lanes. Several occupants were ejected. The truck also flipped on its side.
Two victims were pronounced dead at the scene. Good Samaritans used a car jack to extricate a man pinned underneath the van.
Paramedics airlifted seven victims to a Jensen Beach hospital. Others were transported by ground to a Port Salerno Medical Center. Their conditions weren’t immediately known. Some were treated at the scene.
The crash is being investigated as the Florida Highway Patrol Department are still trying to determine if either drugs or alcohol had a part to play in the crash.
Anyone with relevant information concerning the crash is asked to contact the Florida Highway Patrol Department or the Martin County Police Department.
