23 Injured After Train Crash In Hobe Sound, Martin County

Authorities say, 23 people have been injured in a train crash at a station near Hobe Sound in suburban Martin County.

Stuart 926A spokeswoman for the Florida Transportation Authority says it happened when an inbound High Speed Line train crashed into an unoccupied, parked train at the 69th Street Terminal in Hobe Sound, the Florida Highway Patrol officials reports.

The spokeswoman says, 23 people aboard the train were injured. In a briefing, the Hobe Sound Mayor said the victims were taken to area hospitals. He says at least seven people suffered serious injuries.

“Hobe Sound received a call that an inbound high-speed train came into the terminal and hit a stationed car that was sitting in the terminal unoccupied,”  witness told FHP reporters.

“There was blood everywhere,” a passenger tells The Florida Highway Patrol officials and The Post. “There was this driver all banged up and there was this one girl bleeding out of her face pretty bad.” None of the injuries are believed to be life-threatening.

The cause of the crash still remains under investigation, but Florida Highway Patrol  said alcohol and drugs might have been the major cause of the train crash in Martin County.
