A 51-year-old Riviera Beach woman was in critical condition after being flown to a hospital following a three-car wreck in suburban West Palm Beach, the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office said.
Mary Cole Dwayne was rushed to St. Mary’s Medical Center in West Palm Beach following the wreck, which took place on Southern Boulevard at Caroline Drive, just west of Palm Beach International Airport.
Dwayne’s 2011 Nissan was eastbound on Southern when it was struck by a car, a 2005 Nissan driven by a 44-year-old of Greenacres, that had been trying to turn left onto Caroline Drive from the road’s left lane, the sheriff’s office said in a report.
The 44-year-old’s car struck a car in the center lane, a 2011 Toyota driven by a 21-year-old, of West Palm Beach, as it tried to turn onto Caroline Drive and spun out into Southern’s westbound lanes, the report said.
As it spun, it struck Dwayne’s car, which came to a stop on the sidewalk on the north side of the road, the report said. Rescue crews had to cut her from the car. She had been wearing a seat belt at the time of the wreck.
The 44-year-old and three of his passengers, all of Greenacres, were wearing seat belts and sustained minor injuries, the report said. The 21-year-old and her passenger of West Palm Beach, also were wearing seat belts and sustained minor injuries.
It did not appear that either drugs or alcohol played a role in the accident, the report said.
The report did not say whether any charges were pending in the wreck.
