Nearly a year after he allegedly walked away from a crash that killed his passenger, a 45-year-old Greenacres man has been arrested, Palm Beach County Jail records show.
The 45-year old was booked on a charge of failing to stop at a fatal crash. He is scheduled to appear at a bond hearing soon.
According to a search warrant the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office, the 45-year-old was driving a 2002 black Mitsubishi Galant south on Haverhill Road. He drifted off the roadway and violently crashed into a large oncoming vehicle by the Coral Bay Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center south of the intersection with Cresthaven Boulevard.
Authorities found 32-year-old Noel Williams unresponsive in the front passenger seat of the car. They also found broken Corona beer bottles littering the car’s floor. The Riviera Beach man died at St. Mary’s Medical Center in West Palm Beach, the sheriff’s office said.
Five other passengers in the other vehicle suffered minor injuries.
Investigators determined the 45-year-old owned the car and tracked him to his home about a mile south.
A woman who introduced herself as a sister to the 45-year-old man answered the door. She went into a back room and the 45-year-old to walked out. When a deputy asked him whether he owned a black Mitsubishi, he responded, “My car is messed up”
The search warrant indicates that he had a cut below his right eye, scrapes on his right knee and bruises up his shin, “injuries consistent with being in a traffic crash,” the deputy wrote. He was taken to JFK Medical Center in Atlantis for treatment.
