Two people are dead after a rollover crash in Palm Springs, according to Palm Beach County Fire Rescue team and the Florida Highway Patrol officials.
It happened near 7th Ave N and Kirk Road, a Florida Highway Patrol sergeant said.
The vehicle that rolled over was a Ford Expedition that was heading south on Kirk. It tried to swerve to avoid a vehicle stopped in front of it, according to the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office.
As the Expedition tried to drive around the stopped vehicle, that vehicle began to make a turn and caused the Ford driver to speed up, investigators and witnesses said.
When the Expedition accelerated the driver overcorrected, lost control and overturned, PBSO and Florida Highway Patrol said.
Two passengers were ejected in the process and both died from their injuries, according to a traffic report. PBSO identified the victims as a 14-year-old Joshua Vitte and 18-year-old Calvary Peters. According to the sheriff’s office, they were both not wearing seat belts.
The driver and two other passengers in the Ford received minor injuries, FHP authorities said. The main cause of the car crash is still under investigation according to the Florida Highway Patrol and witnesses
