Five children and one adult were sent to different hospitals with serious and severe injuries caused in a bus crash involving a pickup truck and a private bus taking children home from an aftercare program, Florida Highway Patrol reported.
The car crash that happened near Northwest 19th Street and 15th Avenue sent a total of about eleven children and three adults to the Broward Health Medical Center and the Plantation General Hospital, according to the Fort Lauderdale Fire Rescue Department and police authorities.
One of the children on the bus, Josh Clinton, 10, told the WTVJ-Ch. 6 that there was a lot of screaming and crying after the car crash.
“Some white truck came out of nowhere and hit all of us and all the kids just took off their seat belts and started running out,” he told the Florida Highway Patrol officials.
Family members told WPLG-Ch. 10 and Florida Highway Patrol officials that the children aboard the bus attend Bennett Elementary School in Fort Lauderdale. “The Broward County Police Department are still investigating the crash as they are trying to determine the main cause of the crash”, a Florida Highway Patrol officer said.
