A woman has died and a seriously injured man remains trapped following a crash on the Fort Pierce Highway.
The man is trapped in a car with serious injuries while the woman is in a critical condition after the crash on the Fort Pierce Highway west of St. Lucie County.
Five people, including a five-year-old girl, are suffering from minor injuries following the multiple vehicle crash.
Six ambulances are at the scene with a medical rescue helicopter en route from the Gold Coast.
“The second vehicle has a female patient in a critical condition and a male patient trapped with serious injuries being assessed and treated,” a paramedic said.
Passengers in the other vehicle were a five-year-old female with minor head injuries, a 17-year-old male with chest pain, 21-year-old male with abdominal pain, and a 23-year-old with fractured backbones.
Four adult occupants of a second vehicle are suffering minor injuries, while a five-year-old girl is being treated for head injuries originally described as minor.
According to the Florida Highway Patrol, drugs or alcohol may have resulted to the crash, although the FHP and Fort Pierce police authorities haven’t filed any charges yet.
