Two young children were killed and a third child was flown to the hospital with critical injuries after a two-vehicle Martin County crash, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
The names and ages of the children were not released by the post of the Florida Highway Patrol, which says it is withholding them until its investigation is complete.
The crash occurred in Jensen Beach in Martin County.
A female driving a 2017 Ford Escape collided with a 2005 Honda Accord driven by another female at the intersection of Jensen Beach and Port Salerno, according to the Florida Highway Patrol. There also was a female passenger in the Accord and three children. Both children were in car seats.
The crash pushed the Accord into a pole and a utility box.
Two children died and the third child was flown to Martin County Medical Center with life-threatening injuries, the Florida Highway Patrol and officials says.
The driver of the Escape was treated and released at a hospital for minor injuries. The patrol did not say if the two other females in the Accord were injured.
The Martin County Sheriff’s Department and Jensen Beach Fire Department also responded to the crash, which remains under investigation.
Troopers are asking anyone who saw the crash to contact the Florida Highway Patrol officials to assist in the investigation.
