Pickup Truck Caused Crashed That Killed Five
A man driving a pickup truck into oncoming traffic on Interstate 95 in Palm Beach County crashed into several cars, killing four people inside one vehicle and herself, the Florida Highway Patrol confirmed.
The crash occurred on I-95 northbound near Palm Beach Gardens Drive.
Four of the deceased victims have been identified as Ben of Cooper City, 52-year-old Clinton Brown and 53-year-old George Frank both of Bridgeport, and 71-year-old Dennis Silver of Palm Beach County.
According to Florida Highway Patrol officials, a 23-year-old woman from California in a pickup truck was driving the wrong way in the northbound express lanes when she sideswiped one car and struck several others. She was killed in the crash. Her name has not been released.
FHP said, the man struck a Hyundai Sonata head-on, killing the four adults inside that vehicle. Two of them were thrown from the car onto the roadway by the impact of the crash.
“The accident was so severe that rescue had a hard time removing the bodies from the vehicle,” a FHP said.
In total, the crash involved five vehicles, FHP said.
All northbound lanes were shut down as crews responded to the scene. The lanes have since reopened.
There’s no word on what caused the woman to drive the wrong way. The investigation is ongoing.
