A Port Salerno family is devastated after a horrific crash on I-95 that killed 5. It happened on I-95 Southbound, just North of the Indiantown Road exit.
Investigators and the Florida Highway Patrol say a tire on the van the family was riding in separated, sending the van into a wall and then into another car. Five people including 2 teens and 1 child were confirmed dead in the crash.
The father of those minors and his other daughter survived. Family and friends gathered at a memorial set up for the victims.
They say the loss is almost too much to bear. The grandfather of the kids spoke to News Channel 5 through a translator.
“The kids were very sweet, very honest, they were very loving,” he says.
He says right now, his son is devastated.
“Right now he feels lonely. He lost his 3 kids. He still feels an emptiness in his heart that’s going to take time to heal.”
Florida Highway Patrol says, the investigation into the crash is still ongoing.
The car the van crashed into had a passenger and a driver in it. They were also confirmed dead, FHP said.
The family says they are looking for help with funeral expenses.
