21-Year-Old Driver Charged In Car Crash That Left Dorothy Charles Critical
A 37-year-old Palm Springs woman was hit by a car while the driver was fleeing from the police. She has been listed in critical condition, Delray Beach police said.
Dorothy Charles was walking on the sidewalk on Southwest 29th Street when she was hit by a Jeep Grand Cherokee that was evading officers after sideswiping a police car.
The driver, a 21-year-old, fled the scene. He hit a second car before he hit Dorothy then crashed into a pole.
Dorothy was taken to Delray Medical Center and was later listed in critical condition.
The 21-year-old driver was arrested and faces charges of hit and run, fleeing and eluding police and driving with a suspended license.
Police said, the 21-year old driver charges remained unchanged, but a Delray Beach Police Department spokesperson said the crash still is under investigation and additional charges are possible. Anyone with additional information concerning the cause of the crash is asked to contact the Florida Highway Patrol.
