56-Year-Old Bruce Jakes Killed In West Palm Beach Crash
Authorities in Palm Beach County say a man died in a car crash involving a police officer.
According to a Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office report, Bruce Jakes, 56 of West Palm Beach was driving a 2018 Camry northbound on Military Trail south of Delray Beach Road in the left turn lane.
At the same time, a 2015 Chevrolet Traverse was traveling southbound on Military Trail north of Delray Beach Road in the outside lane.
The Traverse was an unmarked Boca Raton police SUV driven by a 27-year-old police sergeant.
A third vehicle, a 2018 Nissan Maxima, was stopped for a red light at the intersection of Military Trail and Delray Beach Road facing eastbound.
As the Traverse entered the intersection under a green light, Bruce Jakes turned left into the path of police vehicle. This caused a collision between the front of the Traverse and the driver side of the Camry.
After the wreck, the Traverse was redirected in a southwest direction and collided with the Maxima.
Jakes was transported to Delray Medical Center where he was pronounced dead. Three of his passengers were also pronounced dead in a hospital.
The police sergeant was transported to Boca Community Hospital with minor injuries. The driver of the Maxima was uninjured.
