One person died and five others were injured in a pre-dawn crash that left a pickup and a car upside down, debris strewn along a Wellington Park street, and a utility pole half tipped over.
One victims were identified as Jeremy Tyler of West Palm Beach. The five crash survivors, whose names were not disclosed, were taken to the hospital with injuries that were not life-threatening, the Broward Sheriff’s Office said.
The crash on the 3200 block of Southwest 52nd Avenue had been reported, an agency spokeswoman said.
Deputies were on their way to the crash scene when dispatchers received reports of gunfire in the area. Investigators found a weapon, possibly a semi-automatic rifle in the middle of the street surrounded by twisted metal, she said.
Also unknown is whether the people in the vehicles knew each other.
Throughout the morning, a white Chevrolet S-10 pickup remained rolled over along 52nd Avenue. The crashed car, a dark-colored Nissan Altima, also rolled over, was nearby on the grass of the Holly Ridge apartment complex.
How the crash happened isn’t yet known but witnesses describe it as loud and violent.
