Uber Driver, Juan Ternera, Killed In Oakland Park
An Uber driver from Delray Beach died in a violent crash at the intersection of Dixie Highway and Commercial Boulevard in Oakland Park, the Broward Sheriff’s Office said.
The Uber driver died in a violent crash with a that went airborne as it crossed the railroad tracks at an Oakland Park intersection, the Broward Sheriff’s Office said.
Juan Ternera, 37, of Delray Beach was driving a passenger in a white Altima east on Commercial Boulevard when a gray Altima going the opposite direction lost control, said a sheriff’s spokeswoman.
Ternera’s passenger was hospitalized with serious injuries after the midnight crash but was expected to survive, the sheriff’s office said. The passenger’s name was not released by authorities.
The 25-year-old driver of the Altima was speeding when he crashed into the Uber driver’s car at the Dixie Highway intersection, Concepcion said.
“The vehicles collided with such force that the engine of the 25-year-old man’s car separated from the vehicle,” she said. “The battery and other vehicle parts were also scattered on the roadway.”
“As the 25-year old driver crossed over the railroad tracks at Dixie Highway, his vehicle went airborne, rotating as it slid across multiple lanes of traffic,” FHP said.
The 25-year-old man’s car slid toward oncoming traffic, grazed an Acura and then crashed into the Uber driver’s car, the sheriff’s office said.
A 22-year-old man of Plantation was driving the Acura. He remained at the scene and is aiding the traffic-homicide investigation.
Paramedics from Oakland Park Fire Rescue took the 25-year-old man, Ternera and the Uber passenger to the hospital where Ternera was pronounced dead, the sheriff’s office said.
