13-Year-Old Accused In Second High-Speed Chase Crash That Injured A 20-Year-Old Woman

A 13-year-old Indian River County boy accused of leading Florida Ridge police authorities on two separate high-speed chases in a year has been placed on house arrest.

The Florida Highway Patrol reports the Indian River County boy denied charges of grand theft, criminal damaging and failing to comply with a police order on Wednesday in the County Court. He’s has a court appearance at the end of the year.

Police authorities in the Cleveland suburb of South Beach said, the boy sped off in his mother’s SUV after she took away his video game console. He reached speeds of 70 to 90 mph as officers gave chase.

The pursuit ended about when the boy crashed into a parked truck and sustained minor injuries

The truck that he crashed into had a 20-year-old Palm Beach County woman in it. She sustained severe head injuries and was rushed to a nearby hospital in Florida Ridge, the Florida Highway Patrol officials said.

The main cause of the crash is still under investigation as the Indian River County Police officials are trying to figure out if alcohol or drugs had a part to play in the crash.
