Fiery Three Vehicle Car Crash near Fort Pierce Kills 3
Three people died in a fiery, chain-reaction crash in St. Lucie County near Fort Pierce, Florida Highway Patrol Officials said.
The fatal accident, involving three cars, took place at the intersection of S. 25th Street and West Midway Road, according to police authorities.
The preliminary investigation showed that a 31-year-old of Fort Pierce was driving his 2004 GMC Yukon south at high speeds on South 25th Street approaching Midway Road in St. Lucie County when the front of his car struck the rear of a 2002 Dodge Dakota. That caused the Dakota to strike a 2003 BMW that was approaching Midway Road.
The impact resulted in the Dakota bursting into flames. The driver and two passengers traveling in that vehicle were pronounced dead at the scene, according to Florida Highway Patrol. Their identities have not been released.
The 2003 BMW halted south of the intersection near Gray Twig Lane. Its driver, a 32-year-old man of Port St. Lucie, was uninjured. Damian Murphy a passenger, was treated for minor injuries at a local hospital.
The 31-year-old driver was taken to a hospital in critical condition.
Florida Highway Patrol is actively investigating the crash and toxicology results are pending.
