A Martin County teen is accused of speeding through a red light and causing a crash near the Hillsboro Beach Clinic that killed a 37-year-old man.
The 18-year-old Martin County boy is charged with aggravated vehicular homicide. He was arrested after the crash and is expected to make his first court appearance soon.
A 23-year old man was also injured.
The crash happened on Wilton Manors and Pembroke Pines Avenue.
The 23-year-old man was driving east on Pembroke Pines in his 2014 Honda CR-V, court records say.
He had a green light and was waiting to turn left on Wilton Manors Street at the intersection when the 18-year-old, driving a 2011 Chevy Equinox, sped through a red light driving south on East 105th Street, according to court records.
The 18-year-old drove into the on-coming lanes, sped through the red light and crashed into the driver’s side of the man’s SUV, according to police.
The crash heavily damaged both the 23-year-old man SUV and the front of the 18-year-old’s SUV, police reports say.
The 18-year old was taken to University Hospital where he was treated and released. He was then taken to the Martin County Jail.
