A Palm Beach Sheriff Sergeant, Jacob Nick, was injured near SE Bridge Road in Hobe Sound.
The Palm Beach Sheriff Sergeant was struck by a car as he stood alongside Interstate 95 in southern Martin County. “He continues to recover and is in good spirits,” the agency said.
Sergeant Jacob Nick is expected to leave St. Mary’s Medical Center in West Palm Beach and might speak to reporters by the end of the week, a PBSO Lieutenant said. The Lieutenant thanked the public for all your warm thoughts for Sergeant Nick and the PBSO family.
Authorities said, he was struck in the right lane of northbound I-95 just north of Bridge Road, about 10 miles north of the Martin-Palm Beach county line.
He was investigating an earlier crash involving a 33-year-old of Pompano Beach. They were on the highway’s shoulder when one car struck another, sending it spinning into the men, according to a report. Nick was thrown by the impact.
The dramatic video captured by WPEC-TV Channel 12, which had responded to the initial crash, drew national attention.
Brown, 43 suffered minor injuries. He and the driver of the first car, could not be reached. The other 33-year-old driver of Wellington, declined to comment.
