The crash happened in the eastbound lanes of Interstate 95 near the 260th Street exit during a heavy downpour of rain, police authorities said.

The 36-year-old man of Port St. Lucie was driving a red minivan when it veered off the eastbound lane, jumped a hill and barreled through grass and weeds before it came back on eastbound lane and crash into a Honda Accord, Palm Beach County police said.

The 36-year-old was rushed to the nearest hospital by paramedics at the scene.

Two other passengers in his van were taken to a local hospital for treatment. According to paramedics their conditions were not yet made known.

The driver in the Honda Accord, and two passengers in his vehicle sustain non-life threatening injuries and were taken to a nearby hospital.

Police officials have not said whether the rain was a factor in the crash and investigators will determine whether drugs, alcohol or street racing played a role.
