Ricardo Grimes Injured After Being Hit By Train On Boca Raton Road
A 35-year-old bicyclist was hit and injured by a train in Boca Raton when he tried to pedal around a flashing train gate, Florida Highway Patrol deputies and police officials said.
Ricardo Grimes was hit near the Tri-Rail station in the 1700 block of E Boca Raton Road, according to a vehicular homicide report from the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office. Grimes pedaled the wrong way on Boca Raton Road, went around the train gates and was hit by an approaching northbound train, said the post and a Florida Highway Patrol sheriff’s spokesman.
The train clipped Grimes’ back tire, the FHP spokesman said. “The bicyclist’s improper and illegal actions were the sole cause of the crash, he was initially rushed to the Delray Medical Center in Palm Beach County for treatment, where he was listed in critical condition,” the Florida Highway Patrol official said.
Both Tri-Rail and Amtrack tracks remained shut down as the investigation continued, police authorities said.
Anyone with relevant information concerning the crash is asked to contact the Florida Highway Patrol Department.
