The crash happened on Seaway Drive, according to the Florida Highway Patrol and police authorities.

Police and the Florida Highway Patrol say a silver 2007 Dodge Ram truck, driven by a 27-year-old Fort Pierce resident, was traveling west on Seaway Drive when the vehicle veered into the eastbound lanes of traffic at the crest of the South Causeway Bridge colliding head-on into a green 1997 Ram truck, driven by 21-year-old Christian Jake of St. Lucie County.

Jake was pronounced dead at the scene. His other passenger, the driver of the silver truck and a passenger in the silver truck were transported to a local hospital in critical condition.

There were no other occupants in either vehicle, Florida Highway Patrol officials say.

The Fort Pierce Police Department Traffic Homicide officers are investigating the crash.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, the South Causeway Bridge, also known as Seaway Bridge, is back open after it was closed for several hours overnight following the crash.

Fort Pierce police tweeted that the bridge was back open.
