Investigators in Broward County have arrested the man they say caused a car crash, killing a sheriff’s deputy.
Deputy Benjamin Nimtz was killed when his cruiser was hit by a man who investigators said ran a red light.
The 33-year-old man accused of causing the crash has been arrested, according to police officials in Broward County.
The 33-year-old man faces a long list of charges including DUI manslaughter and vehicular homicide.
Benjamin Nimtz lived in West Palm Beach and had a wife and two small children.
Police investigators said, Nimtz was responding to a domestic dispute in Deerfield Beach and had his lights and siren on as he crossed through the intersection of Military Trail and SW 10th Street.
Police said, that’s when the 33-year-old man ran the red light, slamming into Nimtz’s cruiser.
Nimtz later died at the hospital according to paramedics.
Police investigators said, the crash is still under investigation.
