A multi-vehicle crash on I-95 near the Gateway Boulevard overpass left one person dead, according to Florida Highway Patrol.
While driving southbound on I-95 near Gateway Boulevard, the driver of a 2006 BMW X5 failed to maintain control of their vehicle and veered off the roadway to the right.
The BMW struck the concrete barrier wall before striking a white Honda Accord then overturning onto its right side, landing in the outside paved travel lane facing in an easterly direction.
The driver of a 1997 Toyota Tacoma failed to observe the overturned BMW and struck the undercarriage of the BMW with the front of their Tacoma.
Following that crash, the driver of the Toyota exited his vehicle and was standing in the outside center paved travel lane.
The driver of a 2003 Toyota Matrix failed to observe the crashed vehicles and the non-motorist and struck the man, throwing him into the rear truck bed area of the Toyota Tacoma.
The driver of the Matrix came to a controlled stop on the outside paved shoulder.
The non-motorist victim, later identified as 51-year-old Sergo Estime of West Palm Beach, was transported to Delray Medical Center via Boynton Beach Fire Rescue and succumbed to his injuries. The drivers and passenger of the other vehicles suffered minor injuries.
The driver in the Honda wasn’t injured in the crash
The crash remains under investigation.
