Four Critical After Teen Caused Car Crash On Indian River County Parkway

A teen driver burning rubber on an Indian River County highway was severely injured when he sparked a horrific three-car crash Florida Highway Patrol said.

A 17-year-old teen was behind the wheel of his 2002 Honda Accord west on the Indian River County Expressway between Eastbound and the Indian River County Parkway when he came upon stopped traffic and suddenly slammed into a 1997 international tractor-trailer, Florida Highway Patrol said.

The 17-year-old teen then lost control of his car and spun into a guard rail before bouncing off and striking a white Toyota RAV4, according to Florida Highway Patrol.

The teen from Port Salerno was rushed to a hospital in the Indian River County and his 14-year-old male passenger was rushed to Delray Medical Center in a critical condition, Florida Highway Patrol said.

The 52-year-old man, driving the tractor-trailer, and the 27-year-old man in the Toyota were also severely injured and remained on scene. One other person was injured after the crash.

It was not clear whether the 17-year-old teen was intoxicated at the time of the accident, Florida Highway Patrol said.

Anyone with additional information relating to the crash is asked to contact the FHP.
